Katie Britt is an American politician and attorney serving as the junior United States senator from Alabama since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, she previously served as the 33rd State Treasurer of Alabama from 2018 to 2023.
Britt graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in political science and public relations and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law. After graduating from law school, she worked as a clerk for Judge William H. Pryor Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. She then worked as an attorney at the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP.
Britt entered politics in 2016 when she was elected to the Alabama State Senate, representing the 5th district. She served in the State Senate until 2018, when she was elected State Treasurer of Alabama. As State Treasurer, Britt was responsible for managing the state’s $8 billion investment portfolio.
In 2022, Britt announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican Senator Richard Shelby. She won the Republican primary and the general election, defeating Democratic nominee Will Boyd. Britt was sworn into the U.S. Senate on January 3, 2023.
